long: From the mind of Scott Bailey comes ‘The Lurgee’, a surreal film about the darkness of the human psyche. Carl, a common man who lives in the city navigates his life while living with what they call the lurgee. A disease that, if caught, can destroy a person’s mental state of mind and wellbeing. When his partner James is dying of the same illness, Carl starts to drop his beliefs as a good, moral citizens and begins to utilise his own illness as a way to take revenge on people in the city. After James eventually passes, Carl falls into a deep depression that leads him to have a nervous breakdown. This breakdown leads him down a dark path that destroys his own reality where he enters into his own dark world of disarray.
After shaving his head and losing all morality, Carl’s dark psychosis leads him to drink and lose all morality. After days and weeks of dealing with James’ death, Carl ends up at a pier where he can finally end his situation once and for all. Carl’s own journey asks us about ours, how will we cope if we were in this same situation? Will depression take hold? Will we contemplate ending it all and ending our own morality and beliefs? After Carl slowly stumbles towards the end of the pier, he takes out a gun. At the end of the pier, he shakily points it at his own head.
